Washington D.C. Indian
Wedding Photography
Over fifteen years. Hundreds of weddings. Every ceremony, every celebration, every moment between.
The DMV
I have been photographing Indian and South Asian weddings in Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland for over fifteen years. The DMV is one of the most active markets for South Asian weddings in the country, a dense, well-travelled community that knows what it wants and does not compromise on quality.
The geography of this region means weddings are spread across a wide area. A Punjabi Sikh family might hold their sangeet in Fairfax, their anand karaj at a gurdwara in Chantilly, and their reception at a hotel near Dulles. A Bengali and Tamil Hindu couple might hold two separate ceremonies across two states. I have shot all of it, across D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, and I know these venues and these roads well.
I am based in Chicago and travel to the DMV regularly. Because the cost of living in Chicago is lower than in the D.C. metro area, couples often find that flying me out is comparable in cost to hiring a local photographer — without the compromise on experience or quality.
Venues
Washington D.C.
The Mayflower Hotel is one of Washington's most historically significant venues, grand, formal, and full of character. The Watergate Hotel brings a different energy, sleeker and more contemporary, with strong river views. The Mandarin Oriental on the Southwest Waterfront is one of the finest venues in the city for large South Asian receptions, with its ballroom scale and service quality. The Hotel Fairmont Washington D.C. in Georgetown is a quieter, more intimate choice with beautiful outdoor spaces.
The Josephine Butler Parks Center in the LeDroit Park neighbourhood is one of the most distinctive ceremony and event spaces in D.C., a restored Victorian mansion with a warmth and character that hotel ballrooms rarely match. I have photographed a Tamil ceremony, a Bengali ceremony, and a sangeet there for Sharmi and Shyam's multi-day celebration.
Northern Virginia
The Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles in Chantilly is one of the most frequently used hotels for large Indian weddings in Northern Virginia, with the scale and flexibility to handle multi-day celebrations. I photographed Kamal and Amanpreet's Punjabi Sikh wedding here, ceremony and reception across one beautiful day.
The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center at National Harbor in Maryland is the largest event venue in the region, capable of handling the biggest South Asian wedding celebrations in the area. I photographed Forum and Neil's wedding here, the scale of the space is extraordinary.
White's Ferry Manor in Leesburg is a popular choice for receptions among Virginia-based families. Morais Vineyards and Winery in Bealeton is one of the more distinctive settings in the state for an outdoor Indian wedding, open sky, vineyard grounds, and enough space for a full celebration. I photographed Aditee and Ankit's Maharashtrian Hindu wedding there.
For Sikh weddings in the area, the Raj Khalsa Gurdwara in Fairfax Station is one of the primary venues for the anand karaj ceremony. Jasmine and Timpi's four-day Punjabi Sikh wedding began at home in Fairfax Station, moved to the gurdwara for the ceremony, and ended at White's Ferry Manor for the reception.
Virginia & Maryland Destinations
The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia is one of the most extraordinary wedding venues on the East Coast, a National Historic Landmark that has welcomed guests since 1766 and hosted 23 US presidents. I photographed Brenna and Amit's Hindu and Christian fusion wedding here in October 2025. The Homestead's mountain setting, outdoor ceremony spaces, and grand interiors are unlike anything else in the region.
Herrington on the Bay in North Beach, Maryland, right on the Chesapeake, is a waterfront venue I have photographed for editorial work, and one that suits Indian weddings looking for a more natural, outdoor setting.
For couples wanting to use Washington D.C.'s iconic public spaces, the National Mall, Georgetown's cobblestone streets and canals, Rock Creek Park, I have photographed portrait and pre-wedding sessions across all of these locations and know them well.
