Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2012
There was a significant turnout at the 2012 edition of the Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF). It was no surprise given the impressive lineup of movies showcased that year, drawing in a diverse and enthusiastic audience to celebrate South Asian cinema.
It took place September 20-23rd with movies playing at the Chicago Showplace Icon Theaters and Film Row Cinema At Columbia College Chicago. The opening night film featured the North American premiere of Heroine, starring Kareena Kapoor.
Many notable artists attended the festival, and we were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of them walking in on the red carpet event that preceded the opening movie. Among the stars seen were the legendary Farooq Sheikh, the talented Lillete Dubey, and the esteemed Adil Hussain, adding glamour and excitement to the evening.
The festival was a vibrant celebration of South Asian cinema, bringing together filmmakers, actors, and cinephiles from around the world. From thought-provoking documentaries to heartwarming narratives, the festival showcased a diverse range of films that captured the essence of South Asian culture and heritage.
Even the stunning Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, elegantly attired in a bespoke Manish Malhotra ensemble, graced the event for her film Shobhna’s 7 Nights, the poignant closing night feature. Post-screening, she engaged in a vibrant Q&A session, delighting the captivated audience with her insights and experiences.
Audiences were treated to a unique cinematic experience that not only entertained but also sparked meaningful conversations about identity, tradition, and modernity. CSAFF 2012 succeeded in fostering a sense of community and appreciation for the art of storytelling through film, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
I thoroughly enjoyed the four day festival! Can't wait until next year's!
